# SoLo Solutions Lab AI Starter Kit

Practical first steps for learning AI and using it in a small business. From SoLo Solutions Lab, New Orleans East.

## Five beginner prompts

Copy a prompt into your preferred AI tool, then replace the words in brackets.

1. **Clarify a task:** “I run [type of business]. Ask me five questions before suggesting how AI might help with [task].”
2. **Draft a customer reply:** “Write a friendly, clear reply to this customer question: [question]. Use only these facts: [facts]. Flag anything you cannot verify.”
3. **Improve a product description:** “Rewrite this description for [audience] in 80 words. Keep the factual claims exactly as given: [description].”
4. **Compare choices:** “Compare [option A] and [option B] for [goal]. Give advantages, drawbacks, and what information would change your recommendation.”
5. **Check an answer:** “Review the following draft for unsupported claims, missing information, and unclear wording. Do not invent facts: [draft].”

## Small business automation checklist

- [ ] Pick one repetitive, low-risk task you do at least weekly.
- [ ] Write down the current steps and time spent.
- [ ] Remove customer secrets and private information from examples unless you have a safe, approved tool.
- [ ] Set a clear input and output format.
- [ ] Try the task on five past examples.
- [ ] Review every AI answer before a customer sees it.
- [ ] Record errors and revise the prompt or stop the automation.
- [ ] Measure whether the new process actually saves time.
- [ ] Keep a human decision point for payments, contracts, eligibility, and other consequential actions.

## First 20-minute exercise

Choose a recent customer question. Remove private details, use Prompt 2, and compare the draft with the reply you actually sent. Mark every claim that needs a source. If the draft helps, save the prompt as a repeatable template.
